Enfield Council is engaged on a unique and exciting journey of transformation that makes us one of the most attractive local authorities in the UK to join at this present time. Our ambitions are to deliver a lifetime of opportunities for everyone in the borough and we have a plan in place that we believe can inspire and challenge our staff and our residents to make it happen.
Our vision and strategy for success is best expressed in our recently refreshed Council Plan, ‘Investing in Enfield 2023-2026’. I urge you to become familiar with it and with some of the other key strategy documents that you will find alongside the advert. This will enable you to view the role of Chief Executive in its true context as a driver for change and improvement across the local authority as well as an expert delivering the essential roles and responsibilities of the post.
The range of responsibilities assigned to the Chief Executive at Enfield Council will provide positive challenge to the postholder and a chance for the right person to make the role their own. This is an exceptional opportunity to build on Enfield’s stable leadership, strong financial foundation, and record of success. Our ambition is to build upon our industrious history, and make Enfield a hub for innovation and investment, using data and technology to drive continuous improvement and deliver high-quality services. Our key objectives include building and facilitating more good quality homes that local people can afford, creating well-connected, digitally enabled and well managed neighbourhoods. Ensuring our efficient services enable cleaner and safer streets by tackling crime and antisocial behaviour. Supporting the children and the young in our communities to provide them with the help to have the best start in life and thrive.
The Head of Paid Service will play a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive culture, celebrating diversity, and harnessing the strengths of our talented workforce. Aligned with our key four behaviours, you will inspire others to take responsibility; be open, honest, and respectful; to listen and learn, work collaboratively to find best fit solutions. Like all Local Authorities across London, Enfield Council has to deliver its core and essential services within the current financial context the sector is facing - including the impact of the national homelessness crisis and increasing pressures associated with the provision of adult and children’s social care. Enfield Council is committed to meeting these challenges while also continuing to deliver on our ambitious plans for the borough.
We require someone who is politically aware and comfortable with proactively engaging government locally, regionally and nationally particularly with the challenges facing local government. The Chief Executive will help us make and maintain the right connections, establishing positive working relationships with central government to draw in vital extra resources and keep our profile visible and engaging.
